Many of the top notch officials from throughout the United States are present today in the capacity of referees. Many of these men sponsor their own tournaments in the U.S. and Canada. All have contributed greatly to the widespread acceptance of Karate. We have Mr. S. Henry Cho’s All-American Open Karate Championship in New York City; Mr. Jhoon Rhee’s National Karate Championship in Washington, D.C.; Mr. Robert Trias’ Grand Nationals in Kansas City, Kansas; Mr. Allen Steen’s United States Karate Championship in Dallas, Texas; Mr. Tsutomu Oshima’s Nisei Week Festival in Los Angeles; Mr. Ralph Castro’s California Karate Championships in San Francisco; Mr. Al Reyes’ Northwest Nationals in Fairfield, Calif.; Mr. Tigi Mataalii’s YMCA Karate Championship in Gardena, Calif. ; Mr. Chuch Norris’ Las Vegas Nationals in Las Vegas; Mr. Gary Alexander’s United States Karate Championships in New York City; Mr. Olaf Simon’s Northwestern Canadian Championships in Calgary; and Mr. Louis Angel’s Karate Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
